Our Day Trip
Spanning from the rural town of Exeter up to the incredibly scenic vistas of Rowella, the North West Tamar Wine Trail provides a unique and relaxed way to explore some simply exquisite wineries. Along the journey you’ll be able to enjoy breathtaking views down over the Tamar Valley, views up over rolling hills with deep green vines and some quaint country towns which are scattered throughout the Western side of the Tamar River.
If you’re leaving from the airport or Launnie around lunch time, we suggest stopping in at the Ducks Restaurant located in Rosevears for some amazing food. Nestled amongst the vineyards with one of the most spectacular river views of any restaurant in Australia, The Ducks is worth stopping over for a delicious lunch time meal. With a strong focus on local Tassie produce, the menu features a great range of local seasonal produce – we tried the fabulous crumbed Tasmanian scallops. Perfectly paired with some of the best wines from local vineyards and you’re set for an amazing time with family and friends.

After passing through Exeter (stop by the Cabin if you’re in need of a coffee hit!) we continue to the incredibly scenic Small Wonder Wines. Perched on top of a beautiful hill with views stretching across valleys of vines this winery will have you amazed at the views and wines on offer. With a strong focus on Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and a range of aromatic whites there will be a drop that suites your personal preferences all made with a strong focus on sustainability & also is now certified organic vineyard. They are also building a new Cellar door expecting to be open in October 2024 – so do make sure you check it out.
We want to produce iconic wines, that celebrate our unique place in the world, at the same time, minimising our impact on the planet and bringing people closer together
Small Wonder Wines

Our final stop on this incredible tour is Cabbage Tree Hill Wines, located on the edge of Beaconsfield. Whilst Cabbage Tree Hill is full of history from the gold rush days, including being host to a Chinese Market Garden and the tram line for transporting iron ore, today you’re more likely to find sheep grazing amongst the vines. Hosted in a beautiful modern cellar door, you’ll have the chance to explore a series of exquisite wines including award winning Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. We personally recommend the Pinot Noir after the winery won a Gold Medal at the Royal Hobart Wine Show for the 2021 vintage. If you fancy you can also pre-book a Vineyard Platter in advance if you wish to sample some incredible Tasmania produce along with your wines.

These are just some of the great venues in theNorth West Tamar Valley itinerary created in partnership with Tamar Valley Wine. If you want experience some other absolutely fantastic wineries head over to the Gourmakers website or download the Gourmakers app.
